Thesis Revisited:
The weight of beauty is defined by it's temporal nature, that which, paradoxically, provides and deprives it of it's very essence.
Ashley Lil's work explores the tension between the formation, existence, preservation and decay of the beautiful, as well as the mixed emotions attached to these qualities of the temporal. By capturing, honouring, yearning for, transforming, and imparting a heightened stature upon a candid or fleeting moment in time, she argues for the virtue of, the often overlooked, temporal beauty.

A Day In The Black Forest
And peasant girls, with deep blue eyes,
And hands which offer early flowers,
Walk smiling o'er this paradise:

In bed with Bryon
She Walks In Beauty.
SHE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which Heavens to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace,
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
That smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent.
